EDM Council’s DCAM Maturity Assessment
The EDM Council’s Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM) is the industry-standard framework to assess the maturity of data management programs. The framework is considered the gold standard by regulators within the financial services industry. The DCAM framework consists of three levels: Components, Capabilities, and Sub-Capabilities.
DCAM Maturity Assessment at Mid-Size Bank
A mid-size bank initiated a DCAM self-assessment. The data governance leader manually conducted 20 interviews across business and IT stakeholders to gather inputs for the DCAM self-assessment. The process of rating based on interview inputs was extremely manual and time consuming, potentially leading to bias.
Based on the interviews, the data governance leader self-assessed the bank’s DCAM maturity at 2.88 based on scoring at the capability level. However, the data governance leader had limited bandwidth and budget to produce a formal report for senior management. Tavro AI Agent for DCAM Maturity Assessment
The Tavro AI Agent can analyze interview transcripts, assess the data maturity levels at all the different levels and generate a comprehensive report, including an action plan.
We ingested the DCAM interviews into the Tavro AI Agent for DCAM Maturity. The Tavro Agent produced a report with the following table of contents:
- Executive Summary
- Overall DCAM Score by Component (see figure above)
- Overall DCAM Score by Interview
- DCAM Scoring Rationale by Interview by Component (important audit trail for the regulators)
- Missing artifacts by Component
There were two big advantages of using the Tavro AI Agent:
- For a fraction of the manual effort, the Tavro Agent improved the productivity of the data governance leader who would otherwise not have been able to get the report generated within a reasonable period of time
- The Tavro Agent provided a second, unbiased score (2.11), which was relatively close to the data governance lead’s subjective assessment (2.88).
Human-in-the-Loop (HITL)
The Data Governance Lead still acted as the Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) and provided oversight for the results of the Tavro AI Agent.
